Interview with Jim Abernethy: Shark Conservation
I'm proud to share this interview with lifelong shark enthusiast and expert Jim Abernethy! It was an honor to spend time with him and understand why he passionately befriends & defends these creatures which mainstream culture is terrified about.
NOTE: As the ocean noise was so loud, I made sure the captions were possible to read along with the video. Please turn your captions on if you have a hard time understanding us.
Sharks help to maintain a healthy ocean ecosystem, they are the cleaners of the ocean. They maintain the health and balance and lungs of the planet, why would we destroy them? These vertebrates are actually quite shy and contrary to popular opinion & the insane mass programming of films like ‘Jaws’, rarely attack people!
The staggering reality is that humans, with our arrogance, kill up to 100 million sharks per year (for shark fin soup), while shark bites kill on average 6 people per year. (There are about 80 shark bites occur per year. These shark bites are accidental, with sharks mistaking humans for seals or other prey animals.)
Please check out Jim's inspiring story and find out what you can do to help save sharks from becoming extinct!
